EFL Trip Summer 2003
to Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Cadbury World in Birmingham
Outside the Friends' Meeting House in Bournville.
"A dream come true" was how Lei Yang described his trip to Warwick Castle. Lei is a sixth form student at Friends' School Saffron Walden and his comment was made during the annual EFL Trip organised by Audrey Jackson who is in charge of the EFL programme at Friends' School.
"Normally, in China, we only see these castles on television but on that day we saw a real one and it was wonderful", he said.
The twenty-two overseas students were taken to Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Cadbury World in Birmingham by Audrey Jackson who was accompanied by Sheila Addy, also a member of Staff at Friends' School along with their husbands. They stayed in Stratford Youth Hostel. While in Stratford, the group visited the Royal Shakespeare Company and were given an informative backstage tour where they had the opportunity to try on some of the hats and costumes belonging to the Company.
An interesting part of the trip was the stroll around Bournville, the village established for their workers by the Cadbury family, who had a strong Quaker faith. The students also visited the Friends' Meeting House In Bournville.
