Year 7 Geography Field Trip to London
'Docklands' 28 June 2007

The group visited a wide range of sites:
They began by looking at the area around Marsh lane, Hackney where the 2012 Olympics will be based and considering why this area will benefit from regeneration.
A tour around West India Quay, and the Canary wharf area of the Isle of dogs showed where regeneration had successfully been carried out already. The details of the quality environment were noted with architecture, offices and shopping centres visited.
Using the ‘Museum in Docklands’ galleries they were able to discover the history of the port of London and see how it survived the bombing of the second world war.
New transport developments, essential for the area’s regeneration were visited - The Jubilee line extension underground station at Canary wharf, followed by a ride on the Docklands Light Railway to rejoin their coach at Beckton.
The day concluded by experiencing the variety of shops and other services to be found in an out- of- town shopping centre at Bluewater.
