Year 8 Trip to Paris July 2000

Year 8 very much enjoyed their activity week trip to Paris. We had done some preparatory work In lessons discussing the packing list and other details as well as what we were going to do in Paris - all in French.

Pupils have since completed a workbook describing their journey to Paris and their experience of the visit, writing, in French, a diary page for each day of our visit.

We travelled by coach and our coach driver was with us during the length of our stay in Paris. Our accommodation was at the VVF (Village de Vacances de France) holiday village, Dourdan, which has extensive grounds and sports facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool.

We met our tour guide at the 'Opera' and in spite of the rain, we were able to look at many famous buildings from our coach. We got off the coach to visit Notre Dame on the Ile de la Cite and to get to one of the best spots in Paris to photograph the Eiffel Tower... unfortunately, in the rain!

We then went on an afternoon cruise on the river Seine followed by a visit to the Eiffel Tower, and the skies cleared, so much so, that we did get beautiful and clear views of Paris from the Eiffel Tower. There follows extracts from Katie's, Melanie's and Vicki's accounts in their end of activity week assembly.

"We took the lift up the first level, but we used the stairs to get to the second level! I don't think there was anyone who wasn't complaining! So to make it easier we all packed into the lift on the way down...

After a very exciting day we took a much quicker route to get back to our chalets...

On the Wednesday, a quick 6.30 wake-up and into the coach, no wonder we were all tired! Thinking about the day ahead kept Barnaby awake though, thinking of Mickey Mouse's autograph was definitely worth the two hour journey to get to Disneyland Paris.

Once we were all there, we headed straight for Space Mountain, the best ride in the whole park! Katie and Mel went on four times and would have gone on more times if it hadn't been for the wait each time! Others enjoyed it as well, especially Cathie who was screaming so loud you could have heard her from the other side of the park. Another popular ride was Big Thunder Mountain.

Overall, the whole day was a great success!

Later on OIly came in screaming followed by an eight year old French boy who claimed to be twelve! Soon after Madame Searle-Barnes asked us if we wanted to go to a disco for little kids wearing fancy wear for a fancy dress contest on the theme of animals! Of course we agreed and to make an effort all the boys put on make-up!...

The next day, we had to get up even earlier at 6.15 am, in English time 5.15 am. The return journey was much faster!...

On behalf of everyone who went on this French trip I'd like to say how brilliant it was!!"
