PROGRAMME FOR THE 2004 SOUTHERN SCHOOLS’ QUAKER PILGRIMAGE FRIDAY 24TH - MONDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2004

FPIDAY 24th

14.00 Arrive Sawley Meeting House (Grid ref. Sb 774 467).
Park in lay-by at corner of Bolton-By-Bowland Rood and Grindleton
Road. INTRODUCTORY TALK BY ROY STEPHENSON.
15.30 Leave for ascent of Pendle Hill.
17.30 Leave Pendle for weekend hostel, Yealand Conyers, via Vale
of Bowland.
19.30 Arrive at the Old School House, Yealand. Unpack
20.30 Supper. Informal after-supper talk by staff, followed by
free time.

SATURDAY 25th
07.30 Breakfast. Washing-up, prepare packed lunches.
09.00 Leave for Brigflatts Meeting House.
10.00 TALK BY MELVYN ROBERTS
11.30 Leave for FIRBANK FELL.
11.45 Short talk by Roy Stephenson. Packed lunch.
13.00 Leave for Kendal
14.00 Arrive Kendal Meeting House for Quaker Tapestry.
Short free-time in Kendal.
approx 16.00 Leave for Lake Windermere and walk to Gummer’s How.
19.30 Supper at Yealand, followed by free-time.

SUNDAY 26th
08.00 Breakfast. Washing-up, prepare packed lunches.
09.30 Leave for SWARTHMORE MEETING HOUSE.
10.45 Meeting for Worship.
12.00 Leave for BIRKRIGG COMMON and SUNBRECK BURIAL
GROUND. Packed lunch on common.
13.30 SWARTHMORE HALL.
Wardens Bill Shaw/Kate Belwood will continue the George Fox story
followed by a tour of the Hall, the ‘home of Quakerism’.
15.30 approx - Leave for sight-seeing tour into the Lake District, including walk to BEACON TARN, near Conniston.
19.30 Supper, followed by closing talk led by Roy Stephenson.

MONDAY 27th
07.00 Breakfast. Packed lunches. CLEAN AND TIDY HOSTEL
08.45 Brief closing Meeting and DEPARTURE by 9.00
