Holocaust Memorial

Year 9 students took part in the Holocaust Memorial Service held on Friday 27^th January 2012 at St Mary’s Parish Church together with pupils from every otherschool in Saffron Walden.

Matthew Richardson read a passage from the bible during the service and some of our pupils acted as stewards. The speaker, Ruth Barnett, came to the UK from Germany at the age of 4 years as part of the Kindertransport. She was sponsored by Quakers and attended Friends’ School Saffron Walden. Now aged 77 years she has written a book called ‘A Person of No Nationality’ about her life and experiences, a copy of which is in our library. Following the service Ruth Barnet, Rufus Barnes and Anne Howson, curate of St Mary’s, joined our Year 9 students for an informal lunch and discussion in the Library. It was a privilege to take part in a service which remembers the victims and honours the survivors of the Holocaust and which involved the whole community.
