The Junior School offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities. The majority of these take place between 3.45pm and 4.45pm and offer a wide choice and the chance to learn many new skills. This programme is an integral part of the children’s education and our pupils are encouraged to make the most of the opportunities provided.
The activities currently include: Ballet, Drama, Swimming, Chess, Tennis, Football, Art, Speech and Drama, Netball and the ‘Mini-Club’ for Infants. The options do vary over the year and are intended to reflect the interests of both the pupils and the staff. An active involvement in some of the pursuits listed above can develop increased self-confidence and a real sense of achievement outside the classroom.
Children are also given the opportunity to go on residential trips. Year 2 have a sleepover in their classroom at the end of the year, Year 3 spend one night away at St Marks College in nearby Audley End, Year 4 spend two nights at the Flatford Field Study Centre, Year 5 spend a week in North Norfolk and Year 6 visit North Wales for a week spending their time climbing Snowdon, studying glaciation and carrying out a river study amongst other things.
Early Start
You can drop your child off from 8.00 am onwards. Children in the Early Years can be taken to the Early Years block where they will be looked after by one of our Teaching Assistants until the start of the school day, at 8.30 am.
Late Stay
At the end of the school day children may have a drink and a sandwich at 3.30 pm if they are staying for after school supervision. Clubs and Activities begin at 3.45 pm. This includes a wide range of popular activities for Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and Mini Club for children in Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2. The vast majority of these clubs and activities are run by members of staff and are provided at no extra cost. The Early Start and Late Stay programmes are also provided within the fee structure. For those who would prefer their children to stay at school to do their homework, there is provision for this.
Activities and Homework Club run from 3.45 to 4.45 pm. At 4.45 pm there is a Late Stay Child Care provision, which runs until 5.45 pm, at no extra cost.
