Infants

Children make the transition to the Infant Department in the academic year in which they become five. Each class has its own class teacher and classroom assistant. Structured play is still used to develop language, mathematical, physical, social, emotional and moral awareness in Reception.

Children join the Junior School assemblies, make use of the extensive grounds and facilities, and enjoy wider activities such as music lessons to make sure their days are varied and rewarding.

From our Reception class onwards emphasis is placed on a thorough understanding of the basic skills in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Children move up through the Infant Department into Key Stage One, where each class has its own teacher and classroom assistant. In Years 1 and 2, a more formal setting emphasises progress in literacy, numeracy and science.

Be assured though that the wonderful spontaneity of the infant classroom predominates, and that the children are given the widest possible access to a broad curriculum that also includes art, drama, music, French, humanities, ICT, PE and swimming.
