Pastoral Care
Friends’ Junior School prides itself in its pastoral care. We are friendly by name and friendly by nature.
Each class has a class teacher who is responsible for the care and well-being of everyone in their care. The first port of call should a parent have any concerns or questions would be a friendly and approachable class teacher.
Parents are kept well informed about progress with two written reports and two parents’ evenings as well as a curriculum evening to explain the expectations and routines of each new class.
There is a House system and all children belong to one of three houses, Penn, Cadbury or Fry. Each house has two House Captains. The House System promotes teamwork and gives older pupils a chance to take on added responsibilities.
Children collect merits and a star is given as a reward for good work, particular effort or good behaviour. Three stars equal one merit. Pupils who achieve ten merits are presented with certificates in Assembly. Children who have produced a particularly good piece of work, or behaviour may be sent to the Head for praise or mentioned specially in assembly.
Children are encouraged to think independently and think about others. Our mission statement on every classroom wall emphasises this.
At Friends’ Junior School we:
- Work to the best of our ability in all that we do
- Care for the people around us and for the environment
- Treat others as we would like to be treated
- Learn to grow among friends.
We are also very proud to be a Green Flag holder in the Eco-schools scheme.
