A Level PE
in the Sixth Form.
Specification = Edexcel AS 8536, A2 9536 PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
Physical Education at AS and A level would be a suitable course
of study for anyone interested in the area of Physical Education
and sport. The two years of study covers physiological, psychological
and social aspects of PE and sport. The aim is two apply theoretical
knowledge learnt in class to practical and sporting situations therefore
improving overall performance. Two sports are chosen for assessment
at AS level. This is halved at A level where a concentration on
improving personal performance becomes the aim. A research project
can be substituted for practical assessment at both years for students
who prefer a theoretical approach to learning. It would be helpful
to have studied GCSE PE but this is not a prerequisite.
For the AS course of study you will
complete 3 units:
Unit 1: Socio-cultural Element (15% weighting)
- Social basis of sport
- Sport and recreation in UK & Europe
- Olympic case study
Unit 2: Applied course work (20% weighting)
- Acquiring skill
- Practical application or research project
- Performance: Analysis and provision
Unit 3: Exercise and training (15% weighting)
A Level or the A2 course of study
you will complete 3 units:

- Synoptic analysis of trends in International Sport through Global
Games
Unit 5: Refining performance (15% weighting)

Unit 6: Scientific principles of exercise and performance (20%

After AS/A level
This course provides an excellent
base for students who wish to study PE and sport related courses
at university whilst being practical enough for students who would
just like to work in a local gym. A level PE opens many doors to
many interesting and rewarding career opportunities.
