Introduction to the Science Department

"We believe that 'science is for life'. We hope that by capturing the interest and imagination of pupils we can stimulate their life-long interest in the biological, chemical and physical apsects of the world around them.
We also feel that the scientific approach to problem solving through experimentation is an excellent foundation for their future careers, scientific or otherwise
."

Our department has:

  • 6 experienced and successful teachers supported by 2 technicians
  • .
  • 4 well-equipped laboratories ( 2 recently completely refurbished ), 2 prep rooms and a project room.

  • Exam results ccnsistently above the national
  • average at all levels.
  • Up-to-date textbooks for all courses.
  • Science taught as Combined Science in years 7 and 8, with a 3 year GCSE course starting in Year 9.
  • GCSE taken as either a double award or as separate Biology, Physics and Chemistry GCSEs.
  • A levels offered in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Regular use of ICT in our teaching including the use of our own ICT template for GCSE coursework and datalogging equipment.
  • A revision day for Year 11 pupils arranged each year and trips arranged for other year groups.
  • Many pupils going on to study science subjects at university and entering scientific professions.
