Each year we have two vacancies for the period January until December, one in Boys' House (male residency) and one in Girls' House (female residency). Both posts involve some daytime, evening and weekend duties in the boarding house; these duties total around 10 hours per week on average. In addition, there is an on-timetable contribution to lessons and activities of around 14 hours per week as detailed later, making a weekly total of 24 hours work. There is also the opportunity to earn additional payments for taking on extra duties as and when they might arise.

Both posts have accommodation provided which is available throughout the year. All meals are provided during term time, but this does not extend through the holidays. Laundry facilities are available on site. All heating and lighting is provided free of charge. During the course of the year GAP students will be offered courses and other opportunities to extend their learning and qualifications that will be paid for by the School. There will also be the opportunity for students to take part in School trips; the School will cover the cost of these if you are accompanying a trip in a supervisory role.

The salary for each post is £4200 per year, payable at a rate of £350 per month; this means that you receive a salary payment during holiday periods when you are not required to work. Holidays are one week in February, three weeks in March\April, one week in May, eight weeks in July \ August, and one week in October. Some additional paid work - for example, helping with maintenance or ground staff - may be available during holiday time if you wanted it. Please note, however, that the costs of flights and other transport to and from the School must be met by the student, and will not be paid by the School.

The timetabled role in Girls' House would include some assistance with basic level PE and Games coaching, and/or assistance with rehearsals, administrative and clerical work in the Music and Drama departments. This role would suit a female GAP student with some sporting abilities, or with musical skills and performance experience. First Aid and / or Life Saving qualifications would be an advantage. The timetabled role in Boys' House would require basic and intermediate coaching skills in Boys' PE and Games, predominantly soccer, basketball, rugby, cricket, tennis and athletics. This role would suit a male GAP student with sporting skills and interests. Again, First Aid and / or Life Saving qualifications would be an advantage.

If, having read these details, you are interested in confirming your wish for either one of these posts, would you please confirm by e-mail by March 31st. You should send a brief CV, which includes the names and e-mail addresses of two referees, to the Head at the following e-mail:

head@friends.org.uk

I look forward to hearing from you; I expect to have made a decision based on CVs and references by the end of April for both posts.

Graham Wigley (Head)
