Your child will join a school that recognises their
potential in all areas of the curriculum. Whether they join Friends'
in the Junior or Senior School, the focus will be on academic progress
within a framework of all-round development.
At Friends' School, your child will find a strong sense of community
that unites all members of the school - boarding and day pupils,
teaching and non-teaching staff - regardless of age or position.
We believe that learning happens most effectively when relationships
are based on mutual trust. This supportive environment results in
secure, happy students who are able to meet intellectual, creative
and physical challenges with confidence throughout their school
career.
Quakers believe that there is something of God in everyone. This
belief influences all relationships within Friends' School and creates
an environment where your child will be treated as an individual
and integrated into the community. Individuality is cherished and
pupils and staff show respect for the dignity of others.
It is because of the Quaker heritage of the school that we welcome
children from all religious faiths, as well as those with none.
While our assemblies are based on Quaker silent worship, they are
inclusive and respect the religious backgrounds of all our pupils.
Outline of the School
Friends' is a co-educational day school for pupils
aged between 3 and 18 with boarders from age 11. It occupies a
beautiful site ( 12.3 hectares which is over 30 acres) on the
edge of Saffron Walden and makes use of the good transport links
to Cambridge and London. The Quaker ethos fosters inclusivity
and integration and, whilst individuality is cherished, children
are expected to show respect for the dignity of other pupils and
staff. The school offers small classes and well-qualified teachers
who get to know their pupils well. Success is celebrated in academic
achievement as well as music, art, drama and sport.
The Junior School takes pupils into the Nursery
at rising 3 and into Reception at age 5. Pupils are welcomed at
other points dependant on the availability of places.
Pupils enter the Senior School at age 11. Pupils
are also taken at Year 9 and into the Sixth Form.
