The School Day

The school day begins with regis­tra­tion at 8.30. Students meet their Form teach­ers at this time and can discuss any worries or concerns.

Assembly is from 8.45 until 8.55am on Monday, Tues­day, Thursday and Friday. This is in the assembly hall and may be taken by the Head, a member of staff, a form group or outside speaker. Assem­blies begin and end with a period of silence. On Wednes­day there is an exten­ded form meet­ing with form teach­ers. Time may be spent on ment­or­ing, check­ing student plan­ners, plan­ning an assembly or deal­ing with occa­sional problems.

Period 1 begins at 9am and lasts for 55mins. There are 6 peri­ods in the day with a 20minute recess (break) at 10.50am and a one hour lunch break at 1pm. School finishes at 4pm.

Lunch at Friends’ School

The Lunch Menu at Friends’ School follows a 3 week cycle, and the current choices are shown below. In addi­tion to the listed menus, there is also a choice from our Pasta and Salad Bars, and soup and jacket pota­toes are avail­able. Fruit and yoghurts are also available.

Activ­it­ies run from 4.15 to 5.15pm each day. Day students in years 7, 8 and 9 who stay after school each day are expec­ted to attend either an activ­ity after school or do their home­work in the library. Students can sign out to go into town provid­ing they have both parental and school permission.

Day students are welcome to stay after school and into the even­ing. Supper is avail­able at 5.45pm and for those who stay later, prep runs from 6.30pm until 7.30pm (For Year 7). We expect students to be collec­ted by the time their year group goes into the board­ing house.
