Departments

At Friends’ School we are able to offer a wide variety of courses with the opportunity to study from a choice of over 16  to GCSE level and from over 25 in the Sixth Form.

A broad curriculum is followed at Key Stage 3 up to the end of Year 9. Whilst we cover the National Curriculum our pupils do not take the  national Key Stage 3 tests in Year 9 as this gives us greater flexibility in preparing for GCSE courses.

In the second half of Year 9 pupils make choices about which subjects they will then study to GCSE level in Years 10 and 11. Most pupils will study for 9 or 10 GCSEs but there is provision to reduce this for some to allow for greater study time.

In the sixth form the majority of students take 4 AS subjects in addition to General Studies in their first year. Then one subject is usually dropped for the more intensive A2 courses in the second year.  Some students may take a one year course of GCSEs and AS levels in the sixth form.
