The Sixth Form Curriculum
To join the Sixth Form students need to have passed a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C. For most AS subjects they will also need to have obtained a grade C or higher in that subject at GCSE.
Students normally take four AS subjects, as well as General Studies, during their first year in the Sixth Form. Most AS examinations are taken in the week before and after the summer half term, and then students usually go on to study three subjects to A2 level (with General Studies, in most cases, in addition).
There is no restriction on how often a module can be retaken. The highest mark achieved is the one which will count towards the final grade.
Based on information received from prospective Sixth Form students in the spring term, before the start of their A level courses, we construct an option scheme that will permit the majority of the subject combinations required.
Some students may take a one year course of GCSEs and AS levels before leaving to take employment or other qualifications elsewhere.
Please click on ‘Departments’ in the menu bar to see the subjects available in the Sixth Form. Then click on the subjects to find out what is involved in their study and examination at A Level.
