Year 9 Sustainability Day

On Tuesday 4th October Year 9 pupils spent a full and active day learning about sustainability issues.

Their task was to plan a new sustainable residential development for Saffron Walden. This initiative was run jointly by our Geography department and Warren Sparkes, the sustainability manager from Hill Partnerships, the company building our new Junior School. Students were given an outline of their task and briefed on three possible sites for a new residential development; one greenfield site and two brownfield sites. Pupils were informed about the range of factors they needed to consider in order to ensure their new development would be sustainable.

In the afternoon, each group presented a detailed proposal outlining their development plan to a panel of judges. It was evident that we have a number of budding young architects, property developers, environmentalists and urban planners, all keeping a watchful eye on sustainability issues.
